Team Needs

Team Needs:   DT   RB   OG   CB   SS   DE   ILB
The Skinny: Although they were key building blocks in the Chargers little run to nowhere over the past decade, it's probably time for AJ Smith to line up replacements for Jamal Williams and LaDanian Tomlinson. Williams will be 34 and coming off of a major injury and, even before tearing his triceps was showing signs that he wasn't the player he used to be. It also appears that the Chargers will part with LT (for real this time), and despite his superb playmaking ability, I wouldn't count on Darren Sproles to be an every-down player at his stature.
4/15 Update: LT is gone, as is Jamal Williams. Also gone are WR Kassim Osgood, big TE Brandon Manumaleuna, and C Eric Ghiaciuc. QB Charlie Whitehurst and CB Antonio Cromartie have parted ways via trades for draft picks. The Chargers have brought in RB Marcus Mason, CB Nate Vasher, and CB Donald Strickland.

Mock Draft

1 -28. RB Ryan Mathews, Fresno St.
The Skinny: Whether or not San Diego trades away Darren Sproles, Ryan Mathews is a good fit. If Sproles stays, he compliments his running style well. If Sproles leaves, Mathews is your workhorse back.

2 -8. DT Terrence Cody, Alabama
The Skinny: A big nose tackle is a definite need of the Chargers, and they don't get any bigger than Terrance Cody.
