With more and more mock drafts pouring in a number of trends are starting to merge. Most notable is the continued shift from Auburn DT Nick Fairely being selected #1 overall, to Carolina selecting a quarterback.
However, with many mock drafts going unchanged since early February that shift wasn't showing in our data, until now. We made a change to how we are calculating consensus data to limit the data range to the last 14 days.
The results were staggering. Fairley, who at one-time was selected #1 overall in over 60% of mock drafts plummeted to 18%.
Clemson DE Da'Quan Bowers is currently the consensus favorite to go #1 overall with a 26% pick rate in recent drafts. But I suspect that to be short lived as momemtum builds for the Panthers to select a quarterback.
In fact, 32% of mock drafts have Carolina selecting a QB with the top pick. Missouri's Blaine Gabbert leads the charge with 22% of the vote, followed by Auburn's Cam Newton at 8%. I've followed the trend like sheep in my latest mock draft.
Another trend that is taking form is Alabama DT Marcell Dareus being selected over Fairley.
Much like last year when experts began picking Oklahoma DT Gerald McCoy over Nebraska's Ndamukong Suh, I'm not buying it.
