Two of the last three Thorpe Award winners, given to the top defensive back in college football, have played for the Super Bowl championship team in their first year in the NFL.
Eric Berry will be a top-ten draft pick anyway, but this trend might push him slightly higher in the pecking order. Perhaps this says a lot about the importance of defense, and specifically the defensive backfield, to winning championships.
