Safeties no longer an afterthought

The safety position is becoming more of a focal point for NFL teams as the position's importance was demonstrated last year when Ed Reed, Bob Sanders and Troy Polamalu were all limited by injuries.

Dynamic playmakers who can cover, blitz and tackle will be highly valued in the 2010 NFL draft. Eric Berry is a consensus top-five pick, while Earl Thomas and Taylor Mays are first-round talents. South Florida's Nate Allen has the skills to be an early round riser; maybe one of the sleepers in this year's draft.
