Week Nine is in the books and we continue our look at how our preseason Top Five has fared so far as well as a few other risers and fallers.
Today we look at the receiver position.
Preseason Top 5
1) Michael Floyd, Notre Dame - Floyd has had his ups and downs this year. He's had dominating performances against Michigan State, Western Michigan and Tulsa. And he's had games were you wouldn't know he was on the field. Inconsistent quarterback play hasn't helped. And it may get even tougher now that Dayne Crist is out for the year. Floyd currently has 55 catches for 728 yards and eight scores. With three games left, 1000 receiving yards and double digit touchdowns are still within reach.
2) A.J. Green, Jr, Georgia - The Bulldogs dropped three of their first four games with Green serving a suspension for selling some game swag to who the NCAA deemed an agent. Since then they've rebounded with a 3-2 record and Georgia's passing game has caught fire. Green has touchdowns in four of five games but has only eclipsed the century mark once. In five games, Green has 26 catches for 407 yards and five scores.
3) Randall Cobb, Jr, Kentucky
- Cobb has continued to be one of the most dangerous weapons in the SEC, both rushing and receiving. Cobb has 59 receptions for 682 yards receiving and six touchdowns. Couple that with another 207 yards and three scores on the ground and he's a man to fear. His ground game has been limited a bit as of late as he has had his share of bumps and bruises, namely a hip pointer. But that didn't stop him from catching 12 passes for 171 yards and score last week against Mississippi State.
4) Julio Jones, Jr, Alabama - A broken hand hasn't stopped Julio this season. He put in arguably his most dominating performance of his career against Tennessee in Week Eight with 12 catches and 221 yards receiving. Touchdown output has been limited, but the passing game is often an afterthought in Bama's offense. Jones currently sits at 45 catches for 669 yards and three scores on the year.
5) Jeff Fuller, Jr, Texas A&M
- Shockingly Fuller didn't get a whole preseason love from the draft pundits before the season kicked off. Despite some erratic play from Aggies quarterback Jerrod Johnson, Fuller still has 55 catches (some of the one-handed variety) for 858 and 11 scores. With Ryan Tannehill taking over at quarterback last week, Fuller put in an 11-catch,171-yard and two score performance against Texas Tech. The 6-4 receiver will open up a few eyes with that one.
Other Risers and Fallers
Justin Blackmon, So, Oklahoma State
- With Dana Holgorsen running the offense odds were good that someone was going to make some noise for the Pokes this season. Headiing into the season you would have been hard pressed for anyone to think it would be Blackmon, but he's been dominating. Even more impressive is the Pokes' receiving corps has been banged up this year and everyone knows where the ball is heading: Blackmon's way. Blackmon served a one-game suspension for DUI following his trip to the Jerry Dome for the Cowboy's Monday Night Football game last week, but should be back on track in Week Ten. Despite missing a game, Blackmon has already topped the century mark with 1112 yards and 14 scores on 62 receptions.
Greg Salas, Sr, Hawaii - Call him a product of the system, but you can't ignore Salas' 81 receptions for 1238 yards and 8 scores. This is Salas' second straight 1000-yard receiving season.
Leonard Hankerson, Sr Miami - His numbers aren't as gaudy as some, but Hankerson has proven to be one of the most impressive receivers in the country, snagging 44 passes for 681 yards and nine scores despite some shaky quarterback play.
Derrell Johnson-Koulianos, Sr, Iowa - The Hawkeyes prefer to pound it with Adam Robinson, but they also have arguably the top receiving tandem in the Big Ten in DJK and Marvin McNutt. DJK has looked like one of the most polished receivers in the country. He led the team in receptions in 2008 and 2009 and with 30 receptions for 497 yards and eight scores; he's on pace to do it again.
DeAndre Brown, Jr, Southern Miss - Brown has been besieged by injuries this season.
Greg Little, Sr, North Carolina - Many scouts like Little's size and toughness, but he never saw the field this year due to the NCAA probe.
