In a recent interview, Detroit Lions general manager Martin Mayhew didn't tip his hand on which direction they plan to go in the up coming NFL Draft.

"I think we are going to take the best player available and you’ve got to understand at that point we’re talking about groups of players who have similar grades," Mayhew said. “We’re not going to suspend common sense, but we’ll take the best player. We can go a lot of different places with that. I think the key especially the higher you draft is to take the player you feel the strongest about and give that player the best chance to be successful."

Overall, there are not as many holes on the Lions team as in recent years, which will afford them the opportunity to take the .best player available'. Linebacker and secondary are the Lions most pressing needs. The offensive line played better this season, but that is an area where they could upgrade as well.
