When Andrew Luck decided to return to school, DT Nick Fairley and WR A.J. Green started to become sexy picks for Carolina. That trend has shifted firmly in Fairley's favor who has vaulted into the consensus #1 pick with 52 percent of mock drafts taken him in the top spot.
Green still has an average mock draft position of 4, up from 2 just a week ago. This is a better ranking for Green. Since 1969 only two receivers have been drafted #1 overall: Irving Fryer and Keshawn Johnson. With Matt Millen no longer manning a front office, I just can't see Green being drafted in the first three picks. Cincinnati at #4 is the first spot that seems to make sense and 41% of mock drafts tend to agree. That is still pretty high for a receiver, but I can't argue against it. 32% of mocks, including ours, have him going to Cleveland at #6. This is where I see Green having better value.
Another recent trend is the rapid ascent of DT Marcel Dareus. His current mock draft average is 5.
Quarterback Jake Locker has been sliding in recent drafts. Locker is not the in first round of our mock and that seems to be a recent trend. Still, many have him as a top 10 pick. Which is why his mock average is hovering around 15. I suspect that number will rise as he continues to slide.
