Cam Newton schedules private workouts

Auburn quarterback Cam Newton will hold a private workout for NFL scouts on Feb. 10, according to Newton's quarterback coach George Whitfield.

Newton is also expected to throw at Auburn's Pro Day, but won't throw at NFL Scouting Combine at the end of February.

Not throwing at the combine is not a big surprise. However, holding a workout before the combine is a bit rare. Typically top quarterbacks will wait to throw at their school's Pro Day or hold a private workout closer to the draft.

"He’s been great so far,” Whitfield said, “and we’ve decided we’re going to show him off and get him out there before the Combine."

Holding a workout this early tells me they are confident enough in Newton's mechanics to show off to scouts. Looks like they are also trying to generate some early buzz.
